Rack and pinion

Description:

A rack and pinion is a special version of a gear in which a helical or spur gear rack is used instead of a second gear. Devices of this type have found wide application in mechanisms and machine tools, where it is necessary to transfer rotary motion with its transformation into translational motion (conversion of torque and angular velocities into linear quantities). For example, as a transmission element, the rack-pinion mechanism serves to convert the rotary motion of the shaft of the gear motor into reciprocating and vice versa. Functions: Used in the steering of cars. It can be used, for example, as a mechanism for moving the camera's objective board or other devices (theodolite, level ...) when focusing the lens.
