Osteon
Biology
This animation demonstrates the structure of osteocytes. Osteocytes are cells of the bone tissue of vertebrates and humans. Formed from osteoblasts during the development of bone tissue. The bodies of osteocytes are located in the cavities of the basic substance of the bone, which are called bone lacunae, and their long processes are located in the tubules extending from the cavities. In the human body, an osteocyte has an approximate size of 10 microns along the short axis and 20 microns along the long axis.
